Can Aromatherapy Lift your Mind, Body, and Spirit – Part II

John Russell Said:

Although there are approximately 300 aromatherapy oil options available, there are some that you wouldn’t want to use because they can be dangerous. As you play with aromatherapy, make sure you know the rules of safe aromatherapy practice.

As the most well-known aromatherapy essential oil, lavender is usually where people begin investigating essential oils and aromatherapy. There are many uses for lavender that make it such a practical oil. Lavender also is one of the few aromatherapy essential oils thought to be safe to apply directly to skin without needing to be diluted or mixed with base oils or distilled water.

Adults can create an aromatic and therapeutic massage oil by adding five drops of essential oil to 100 drops, (roughly a teaspoon), of base oil such as sweet almond, castor, or avocado oil. Creating your own aromatherapy oils can be a fun experience.

When using essential oils on babies, senior citizens, or anyone with a compromised immune system, reduce the recipe to one to two drops of essential oil for every 100 drops of base oil.

Aromatherapy doesn’t have to be confusing or complex – simply add a few drops added to both water or a foot soak creates a soothing and calm environment to reduce stress while essential oils mixed with distilled water act as wonderful body, room, or linen sprays.

Experimenting with citrus-based aromatherapy essential oils, such as lemon or orange, gives your family the chance to customize chemical-free household cleaners.

Make sure you are aware of the restrictions with aromatherapy. For example; some essential oils should be avoided throughout a pregnancy.

Pennyroyal, rue, savin, mugwort, sage, tansy, thuja, and wormwood could stimulate contractions of the uterus that could lead to a miscarriage.

Essential oils with emmenagogue properties, or those thought to help promote and regulate menstruation, are useful for treating menstrual problems, but also should be avoided during pregnancy. These oils include cedarwood, clary, sage, jasmine, juniper, marjoram, myrrh, peppermint, rose, and rosemary.

Hormone stimulants, such as fennel and aniseed, could upset the finely tuned hormone balance of pregnancy. These aromatherapy essential oils are Fennel and Aniseed. Some oils typically considered safe during pregnancy are bergamot, geranium, lavender, lemon, orange, patchouli, sandalwood, tea tree, and ylang ylang.

Although it’s very important that each woman and her doctor decide about the use of aromatherapy essential oils during pregnancy, health and aromatherapy experts agree that it is wise to avoid the use of aromatherapy essential oils entirely in a high-risk pregnancy.

Five Essential Oils

1.Lavender: Has antibacterial and antiseptic properties and also is calming and soothing. Great for burns, cuts, scrapes, bruises.

2.Lemon: Multiple uses around the home for cleaning. Also thought to increase clarity of mind and increase well being and physical energy.

3.Orange: Also good for cleaning because it’s anti-bacterial and antifungal. A few drops diluted in warm water are commonly used to clean counters and remove stickers from plastic or glass.

4.Tea Tree: Antifungal used for nail fungus, insect bites, and blemishes.

5.Eucalyptus: Helps congestion (dilute in bath or steamed water). Also popular as a foot soak or diluted into lotion for massage.

6.Peppermint: This practical essential oil can be cooked with or used to stimulate energy. Carried when driving long distances, it awakens senses or sparks a weary attention span. Menthol in the oils commonly is used to soothe muscle aches or cramps and to cool fevers.

Enjoy experimenting with aromatherapy and find the oil and mixture that works best for you.

Sandalwood and Tea Tree Oil

Juliet Cohen Said:

Sandalwood is the fragrant wood of trees in the genus Santalum. The tree is medium sized 12-15 meters tall. The trees are felled or dug up by roots; the branches are worthless, so are cut off. It is usual to leave the trunk on the ground for several months for the white ants to eat away the sap wood, which is also of no value.

The core of dark heartwood gradually develops, which is covered by outer sapwood. The sandalwood tree is never felled, but uprooted in the rainy season, when the roots are richer in the precious essential oil. The best quality oil comes from the Indian province of Mysore and Tamil Nadu. Ayurvedic healers either used powdered Sandalwood or the burning of Sandalwood in their ancient practice. Sandalwood, along with agarwood, is the most popular and commonly used incense material by the Chinese and Japanese in worship and various ceremonies.

The wood is used for making fancy articles and is much carved. Essential oils and attars may have also been used in Indian medicine. It is used in aromatherapy and sandalwood oil is also used to prepare soaps. Sandalwood essential oil provides perfumes with a striking wood base note. Sandalwood is considered in alternative medicine to bring one closer with the divine. Sandalwood essential oil, which is very expensive in its pure form, is used primarily for Ayurvedic purposes, and treating anxiety. Tea tree oil or melaleuca oil is a clear to very pale golden color essential oil with a fresh camphoraceous odour. Tea tree oil , only a small number of randomized. Use of topical tea tree oil for fungal infections (including onychomycosis and tinea pedis), acne, and vaginal infections. Tea tree gel may be useful as a treatment on the skin for genital herpes. Tea tree oil is not recommended for use in the ears.

Tea tree oil contains consituents called terpenoids, which have been found to have antiseptic and antifungal activity. Tea tree oil is used in medically used cosmetic products also. Tea tree oil is also effective for treating insect bites, boils and minor wounds. It has also been known to help soothe sunburns, poison ivy, ear infections, and bee stings. When used topically, tea tree oil is reported to be mildly irritating, and has been associated with the development of allergic contact dermatitis, which may limit its potential as a topical agent for some patients. Tea tree oil is not just soothing and disinfecting. It is also effective against head colds.Tea tree oil is most commonly found as a pure essential oil. It is also an ingredient in creams, ointments, lotions, soaps, and shampoos.Tea tree oil should not be taken internally, even in small quantities. Don’t use tea tree oil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Massage Therapists in London (uk)

Body Tissue Said:

The word Massage derived possibly from the French massage “friction or kneading” or Arabic massa “to touch, feel, handle” or from Latin massa “dough, mass” and is a practice and treatment of manipulation of the soft body tissues with physical, mechanical, functional, medical targets.

Of course the only people allowed to perform such treatments are massage therapists. A massage therapist offers a wide range of treatments including back, facial or foot massage as well as full body massage. Massage treatments usually involve an initial consultation to establish the client’s requirements and to identify any contraindications that may prevent the therapist from giving the treatment. Massage therapists work in a range of settings both private and public: hotels, private offices, studios, hospitals, fitness centres, and shopping malls, for example. Some massage therapists also travel to clients’ homes or offices to provide a massage.

The kinds of massage treatments a massage therapist can offer will depend upon training and experience. They may vary from a simple relaxing massage treatment, to specialised techniques such as remedial and sports massage and lymphatic drainage. Many massage therapists also offer other treatments such as reflexology, aromatherapy and beauty therapy. Most massage therapists give massages in a relaxing setting. The use of candles or incense is not uncommon. Soothing music is often played. The idea is to put clients at ease. On the other hand, when visiting a client’s office, a massage therapist may not have those amenities. The working surroundings depend greatly on a therapist’s location and what the client wants.

Because massage is physically demanding, massage therapists can succumb to injury if the proper technique is not used. Repetitive motion problems and fatigue from standing for extended periods of time are most common. This risk can be limited by use of good technique, proper spacing between sessions, exercise, and in many cases by the therapists themselves receiving a massage on a regular basis. Because of the bodily nature of the work and time needed in between sessions, massage therapists typically give massages anywhere from 15 to 30 hours per week and usually believe themselves to be full-time workers.

Massage therapists may use their hands, elbows or even feet to knead and manipulate soft body tissue. Massage can be used to:

• improve muscle tone

• improve skin tone

• aid circulation

• clear the body from toxins.

There are so many options when it comes to massaging. You can choose among full body massages, deep tissue, kneading, rolling, tapping, hot stones, with oils or without, creams, essential oils — it all depends on what you need the massage for and how you would like to feel after the therapy: relaxed, revived, renewed, balanced or de-stressed. Talking over your problems with the massage therapist will let them know how exactly to help you achieve the relief you need.

There are many types of massage including:

• full body massage

• indian head

• sports massage

• baby massage

• pregnancy massage

• aromatherapy massage

• and many more

Therapists will usually start a session by taking a detailed medical history and asking the client about their health and lifestyle. During treatment they apply pressure to specific areas to ease tension and help restore the body’s natural equilibrium. Sometimes they use essential oils for greater results. Following treatment, they give the client further guidance about how to preserve and build upon their general wellbeing.

Qualifications:

To work as a professional massage therapist you need to enrol on a complete course that includes a minimum of 100/150 hours of academic study, as well as practical treatments observed by an evaluator or tutor, case studies and a practical exam. An in-depth massage course will usually face areas such as:

• anatomy and physiology

• classical massage techniques

• full body massage movements

• health and safety

• practical business skills

• record keeping and reviewing changes in a client’s health and well being over a period of time

At BTS all our mobile massage and beauty therapists are qualified, extremely experienced, uniformed, vetted, professional yet friendly in their approach and provide only the best client care at all times. Also, after the completion of their massage diploma BTS provides in-house Deep Tissue Massage training.

Essential Oils in Fragrances

George Key Said:

Essential oils can be used in fragrances to create customized scents. Often times perfumes or colognes which are sold in the store are very inexpensive to make, however they are very expensive to purchase. What the public is paying for generally, is product promotion, marketing and packing of the product. Because perfume and cologne is mass-produced, a lot of people will be wearing the same scent. If you are an individual who looks to stand out from the crowd, who would simply prefer a more personalized fragrance or who is concerned about the chemicals in store brought perfumes, you can use essential oils to make your own fragrances.

At first glance, you may think that this might be too expensive. However, it’s important to note, that it only takes a few drops of your favorite essential oil to make a fragrance. If you’re just starting out and if you’re not sure about which particular scent that you want to use or if you are just experimenting, a good size to start off with is a dram. A dram is essentially a sample size.

To make your own fragrance, you will need about 2.5 ounces of vodka (hundred proof). You will need the essential oils of your choice, 2 tablespoons of spring or distilled water. You need to add the essential oils to the alcohol and let it sit for 48 hours. Next add the water, stir the mixture and then let it sit for 48 more hours. Add more water or oil, if needed. You will need to let the mixture sit for between 4-6 weeks if you want the fragrance to have a strong smell and not fade easily. Common essential oils used in the fragrances include juniper oil, lavender oil, ylang ylang and carnation.

Essential oils, which are the natural oils found in flowers, plants and fruits have many good uses. They can used to improve mood, treat small cuts and abrasions and even to make one’s very own fragrance. It’s very simple to make your own scent that includes all of your favorite smells and essential oils. As a result, you will not only smell fantastic, but you will also get to enjoy the other benefits of essential oil. It only takes a few drops of essential oil to create your very own scent, that you will love to put on everyday or for special occasions. It may take some time to find just the right mixture to make an acceptable fragrance, if you are up to experiment. If you’re not up to it, you can purchase a fragrance recipe book.

Helath, Wellness & a Tea Tree

Iman Ashour Said:

They do connect,

We have all heard of the famous British explorer Captain Cook who In 1770 landed Botany Bay near the site that eventually would become known as Sydney, Australia. During this period of discovery he came across what was then known as the "Healing Ground" area, named by the aborigines, it was an area filled with trees. There Cook observed the aborigines as they applied crushed leaves, gathered from these trees, to open wounds and also used those same leaves to brew tea.

Tasting the tea he found it spicy and refreshing and it was he who gave the Melaleuca Alternifolia tree its common name "The Tea Tree". Captain Cook and his crew would later on take samples of the tea tree back to England for further study but nothing ever became of those studies and thus the amazing medical properties of the Melaleuca Alternifolia remained undiscovered to those outside of Australia.

Many years later, Dr Dennis Considen, a surgeon, recognized the medical properties of the tea tree but due to lack of training and equipment the powerful potential of the oil remained dormant yet again for the next 150 years.

In 1923 Dr A. Penfold, an Australian chemist studied the tea tree oil in depth after distilling it and found that the oil had significant antiseptic as well as bactericidal properties. He presented his findings in the year 1925 to the Royal Society of new South Wales & England and in 1930 one of the first medical references to the qualities of tea tree oil was published in the medical journal of Australia.

When World War 2 broke out the melaleuca oil was an essential part of every Australian first aid kit. Later on in 1960 further studies were conducted in an attempt to rediscover and recertify the effects of the tea tree oil and so it begun, the tea tree was the hit of the century and the Australian government had to set standards for the development of acceptable quality oil which included at least 35% terpinen 4-ol and no more than 10 % cineole. Eventually the standards would change slightly to accommodate room for further proliferation.

Today, Melaleuca oil is recognized and sold world wide. It has undergone extensive research and has proven its multiple medical benefits. A good quality oil today would have at least 35% terpinen 4-ol and no more than 10% cineole which is the 1967 standard.

Finally, Melaleuca has been re-recognized as an extremely effective cure for a variety of medical conditions. Who would have ever thought that a tree would have such a long and complex history?

So, the answer is YES, Health, wellness & a tea tree do connect. Infact, hey have connected so well that some companies have used melaleuca oil in many of their products to establish a successful health line.

AS for myself, being a health care professional and anti-polypharmacy, I have been privileged to learn and gain from the multiple benefits of the tea tree as I do consider it to be a discovery beyond all medical discoveries.

So, to all of you who have not heard of it or tried it….to say you are losing out is an understatement.

Get Techniques of Oil Massage

Peter sams Said:

Massage oil decreases the friction created on the skin and prevents the pulling of hairs. Don’t use too much: The less oil, the greater the friction and the deeper the pressure. Allow about 15 minutes, in the morning. The massage can be done either standing up or sitting down, in a comfortably warm room. Ideally the oil should be heated beforehand to a little above body temperature. Massage slowly and evenly, using the whole hand. By the end of the massage, a thin film of oil should cover the whole body.

Stir well ½ cup of green olive oil with 1 cup of liquid honey. Shake vigorously. Keep the mixture to settle for a day or two. Massage into the scalp and comb it not touching the scalp. After massaging cover hair with plastic shower cap. Make it air tight to let the heat penetrate, leave like that for 20 to 30 minutes. Then shampoo and rinse well. It is good for dark hair to keep it shining and lustrous.

Warm ½ cup of castor oil, massage into scalp and gently comb it. Bind the hair with hot towel on the head, wait for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. As it is home made is so good to use for scanty hair.

Along with the normal circular pressures of massage, massage oil helps the fingers find the right amount of pressure to apply to different parts of the body. Massage oil used with circular pressures of standard massage alleviates stress and releases endorphins through the heat of the oil, relaxing the body to a tremendous degree.

Jasmine makes a nice choice for aphrodisiac aromatherapy massages. Any oil that is left over can be stored in an airtight glass container.

A warm oil massage is very useful for your scalp. The frequency and the kind of massage help moisturize your scalp. It keeps the scalp lubricated and conditioned. Massage improves blood circulation to the head and neck area. Improved blood circulation removes the stress which in turn helps the scalp and hair. A good massage helps in providing sound sleep.

Carrier oils are vegetable oils used to dilute the concentrated essential oils in the mixture of homemade massage oil. Carrier oil slows down the evaporation process, making it easier for the massage oil to absorb into the skin during the deep kneading process of a massage. A massage oil product without good carrier oil may cause unnecessary breakdown of the oils during a deep kneading massage.

Add a bit of oil to go with the massage. Some hypoallergenic aromatherapy oil can help you have a more relaxing and effective massage. The oil can increase the temperature of your back by coating your skin in a thin layer of film. This high temperature can thus aid in relaxing your muscles more efficiently, and can make the massage less painful, especially if the muscles to be kneaded have been knotted and twisted for a long time.

A full body oil massage, when carried out on a daily basis, will nourish and pacify the Vata and Kapha as well as relieving fatigue, providing us with stamina, pleasure and perfect sleep it also enhances an persons complexion and the luster of their skin, will promote longevity in a person and nourishes all parts of a persons body.

Relax your Body With Massage

Peter sams Said:

Massage

A massage relaxes muscles, easing and soothing your aches and pains. It rejuvenates– restoring balance to our body and being, making us better for all the things life throws our way. Massage Envy believes every body deserves a great customized massage, so we’ve made relaxation convenient. Massage improves circulation, which increases blood flow, bringing fresh oxygen to body tissues. This can assist the elimination of waste products, speed healing after injury, and enhance recovery from disease. The basic goal of massage therapy is to help the body heal itself and to increase health and well-being.

It’s a healing instinct, innate in all of us, to rub an aching knee, or stroke a furrowed brow. Headaches, aches and pains, insomnia, tension and stress can all be alleviated with one simple instrument — our hands.

Types of Massage

Deep Tissue Massage-Deep tissue techniques are generally designed for more focused massage work. Working a specific joint, muscle or muscle group, the practitioner can access deeper layers of the soft tissue. Each person experiences pressure differently.

Aromatherapy Massage-Aromatherapy massage is Swedish massage with the addition of concentrated plant oils. Each plant oil has a different healing properly. Some calm. Others energize, cleanse, or rejuvenate.

Hot Stone Massage-Another variation of Swedish massage is the hot stone massage. The massage therapist holds smooth heated stones and uses Swedish massage strokes. The stones may be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes.

Neuromuscular Therapy-Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is used for pain relief and specific problems. Structural and postural imbalances are identified through an initial postural assessment. These are then addressed through systematic and site specific massage.

Remedial Massage-A paramedical treatment that helps to restore function to injured “soft tissues” Therapy may involve the use of various types of Massage, as well as a range of other physical treatments to assist your recovery.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient oriental healing technique based on the Taoist philosophy of balancing energy meridians within the body, thus allowing the body to heal itself. Fine needles are painlessly inserted at key points corresponding to body organs to relieve pain and cure disease and dysfunction.

Alchemical Synergy

Developed by Kamala Renner, Alchemical Synergy is a process of evolving universal energy patterns and is used as a holistic counseling system that focuses on achieving transformation by utilizing the universal four forces—centripetal, centrifugal, gravitational, and electromagnetically—the consciousness portion of the Big Bang theory relative to the beginning of the universe. Centripetal force controls all inward movement, allowing us to go inside to observe and reconnect with our inner world, which contains knowledge of all that is natural for us as an individual.

Types of Body Massage

Suzanne Mullett Said:

Massage therapy involves the manipulation of soft body tissues with pressure, tension, motion or vibration. In addition to various parts of the body, massage can be performed with the aid of mechanical aids, oils and lotions. It is one of the oldest and simplest forms of promoting good health. There are over eighty different types of massage. Let us review some of the more common types of body massage.

Swedish Massage

During a gentle and relaxing Swedish massage, the therapist applies massage oil to the body and uses kneading, circular movements in combination with long, smooth strokes. There are six basic strokes: effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, compression and vibration. Superficial layers of muscle are targeted.

Sports Massage

Athletes and people who work out regularly can benefit from a sports massage. The aim is to loosen muscles and increase flexibility so that athletic performance is enhanced and injuries are prevented or avoided. Therapists use facilitated stretching techniques in combination with more rapid strokes compared with a Swedish massage.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage therapy is performed with the aid of essential oils. Essential oils are scented plant oils and each essential oil is thought to have different effects on the body. For example, rosemary oil is cleansing and energising, chamomile, lavender and geranium are calming and rose, neroli and ylang ylang are uplifting. The theory is that essential oils are both inhaled and absorbed through the skin and have effects on blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion and stress levels. For this reason, aromatherapy massages are particularly useful for treating emotional problems and stress-related conditions.

Hot Stone Massage

During a hot stone massage, heated smooth stones made of basalt are placed on certain points on the body, including the back, the palms of the hands or in between the toes. The therapist may also apply pressure to the stones. The aim is to warm and thereby loosen tight muscles and also to improve the circulation. This lighter form of massage is particularly suited to people suffering from muscle tension.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a form of Japanese massage which involves the use of rhythmic finger and palm pressure to acupuncture meridians. The aim is to improve the flow of energy around the body and thereby restore the body to a balanced state. Benefits include improved circulation, reduced muscular stiffness and reduced stress levels.

Touch has been shown to bring numerous health benefits to people with a variety of conditions ranging from a variety of chronic disorders, injuries and stress-related conditions. It may be worth taking some time to find the type of body massage that is best suited to your needs, if only to help you relax at the end of a long day.
