Aromatherapy Certification

Juliet Cohen Said:

Certification is not needed in the United States . It is often required in the European countries. Many people are confused about aromatherapy certification in the United States. There is no standardized certification for aromatherapy in the USA. A practitioner who has aromatherapy certification has completed a course of study that granted him a certificate of completion. In the United States each individual state is responsible for granting licenses or certificates to individuals like nurses, cosmetologists and massage therapists. The different states impose different criteria – some require a license before you can actually lay hands on any person while some do not.

Many states do require any individual who “lays hands” on another individual to be certified. In the United States, “hands on” professionals, such as nurses, physical therapists and beauticians, are licensed or certified by each state. Some states prohibit any kind of “hands on” practice without a license, but do not license or certify aromatherapists. In those states, you can prepare and blend essential oils, sell them, teach about them, but you cannot apply them to a client. As a practicing aromatherapist, you must know what your state’s laws allow you to do. The lack of standardization is a problem for the public.

They have no way to evaluate what aromatherapists do. With no standardized curriculum, and no core body of knowledge, anybody with a scented candle can claim to be an aromatherapist. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happens. Careers in aromatherapy can be anything from therapeutic counseling, oil storage management, production and manufacturing of essential oils and learning to custom blend different oils for specific patients. Aromatherapy can be used to strengthen an already set up medical practice or used with massage therapy. There are many openings in this booming business of aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy certificates can be earned in several different ways. Most programs are either night or weekend seminars and are open to anyone to attend. Today, practicing aromatherapy offers the joint advantage of doing your fellow citizens a service while at the same time this career can be extremely lucrative. Whatever your reason for opting for aromatherapy courses, there are many schools that you can choose from to acquire aromatherapy certification in india today.If you decide to pursue aromatherapy as a career, compare and evaluate several schools that offer aromatherapy certification.

The Many Uses of Tea Tree Oil

R. Fredriksen Said:

If you haven’t heard of Tea Tree Oil, you are missing out. It has so many benefits that it is a must have for your home medicine chest.

What is Tea Tree Oil? Basically, it is an oil obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a plant native to Australia.

Historically, the leaves were used as a substitute for tea, which is how tea tree oil got its name. The part used medicinally is the oil from the leaves.

The Tea Tree has a long history of traditional use. Australian aboriginals used Tea Tree leaves for healing skin cuts, burns, and infections by crushing the leaves and applying them to the affected area. The oils work as an antiseptic and antifungal due to terpenoids found naturally within the oil.

The first to recognize the unique qualities of the essential oil was a government chemist from Sydney, A. R. Penfold. In 1925 he announced the results of laboratory experiments that showed the oil was twelve times stronger than phenol (carbolic acid) which was then the universal standard for antiseptic substances. This led to further research and to the increasing use of the oil in medicine, dentistry and as a home remedy.

In 1930 a report in the Medical Journal of Australia’ commented on its non- toxicity and lack of irritancy. The report noted enthusiastically that tea-tree oil dissolved pus and left the surfaces of infected wounds clean so that its germicidal action became more effective and without any apparent damage to the tissues. ‘Dirty wounds, such as are frequently seen as the result of street accidents, may be washed or syringed out with a 10% watery lotion; the solvent properties will loosen and bring away the dirt which is usually ground in … healing will readily take place.’

In 1936 the same journal reported a very bad case of diabetic gangrene successfully treated with tea-tree oil. In 1937 it was pointed out that one of the outstanding features of the oil is that the presence of blood, pus or other organic matter actually increases the oil’s antiseptic powers by some 10 to 12 per cent.

During the Second World War tea-tree oil was issued in first aid kits to army and navy units in the tropical regions. At one point demand so outstripped supply that synthetic antiseptics had to be substituted. This, coupled with the fervent post-war interest in antibiotic drugs, led to a decline of interest in tea-tree, which persisted right up to the 1970s.

So what are the complete benefits of Tea Tree Oil? Most notoriously, people have used it for the following conditions:

* Acne

* Athlete’s foot

* Dandruff

* Vaginitis

* Thrush

* Periodontal disease

* As an antiseptic

* Boils

* Lice

* Eczema

* Psoriasis

* Yeast infection

There is dispute over whether Tea Tree Oil can be taken internally. Most packaging recommends against it, others claim in reasonable amounts it has various benefits. But taking it internally should only be by the advice of a professional.

So now you have heard of Tea Tree Oil. What are you waiting for, find some for your medicine chest.

Essential Oils for Stress and Anxiety

daniemoore Said:

You have probably experienced times in your life when you felt stress resulting from events that were job related, relationship-induced stress (such as marital problems, death of a spouse, or divorce), and or money problems.  While it may not seem major, soon, you may start feeling anxious, your heart starts racing, you sweat and tremble, feel restless, experience insomnia and difficulty concentrating. You feel fear, worry, nervousness, and tension, and those feelings seem to hang on regardless of your best efforts to avoid them or stave them off.

This is when I turn to one of my favorite essential oils, lavender.  The most frequently studied of all the essential oils, lavender has been found both in the lab and in clinical environments with actual human beings to be a powerful anti-anxiety oil.  Inhaling lavender oil brings calm in a variety of conditions.  In fact, only Frankincense has a somewhat similar effect, but not nearly as effective as Lavender.  Lavender’s effect has been compared to that of Valium and it can improve sleep and reduce the amount of pain medication needed by recovering hospital patients.  In one aromatherapy study essential oils, including lavender, marjoram, geranium, mandarin, and cardamom, were used in a hospital to help patients get to sleep in place of sedatives, and were found to be quite effective.

So how do you use essential oils?  Inhalation is the most rapid method of absorbing essential oils. This method of essential oil application allows the effects of the essential oil to be experienced in two ways: the oil is absorbed into the body through the respiratory system, and the aroma of the oil is perceived and analyzed by the olfactory system and the brain.  There are special essential oil diffusers which can be purchased in which you place a few drops of the oil in a tbsp of water and light a candle beneath it.  Essential oils can also be placed in an evening bath for deeper sleep or any time of day to treat anxiety.

Essential Oils in Natural and Organic Skin Care Products

Martin G. Apple Said:

Many natural and organic skincare products use essential oils as an ingredients, whilst other products are based on combinations of essential oils as their primary, or indeed only, ingredients.

Knowing that a natural or organic skincare product uses a certain essential oil is all well and good, but how can you be certain as to what properties that oil is giving the product in question? Is the fact that a cream contains bergamot oil good if you’re suffering from a touch of stress, or will it simply serve to make you smell a little bit like a cup of Earl Grey tea?

Well, in fact, bergamot oil might do both. Its familiar smell helps to relax and ease tension, but the oil is actually extracted from the rind of the bergamot orange, which is what Earl Grey is flavoured with. Another oil that helps to lift the emotions is Geranium, which is sometimes used in natural and organic skincare products as a substitute for the more costly ingredient rose. As well as being useful in relaxing us when we are stressed out, Geranium essential oil is a brilliant cosmetic product; it is an excellent antiseptic that is extremely good for skin inflammations such as eczema and acne. It also helps with oil and sebum regulation, so if you’re stressed about any of these conditions Geranium Essential Oil’s duel properties might just work some wonders.

Lavender Essential Oil is a familiar scent that is often found in those microwavable relaxation bags and other such products. Just because it is familiar does not mean that it should be disregarded as a useful ingredient in natural and organic skincare products. As a matter of fact, Lavender Oil is one of the strongest natural antiseptics that has long since been used on burns and wounds. It is also anti-bacterial and effectively regulates sebum production.

Whilst Lavender Essential Oil is a familiar scent in perfumes and organic cosmetics products, one oil that is not is Neroli Essential Oil. Neroili has a very distinctive, citrus smell and, because it is expensive, is not found in many everyday products (in fact, finding its presence on an ingredients list is one way of knowing if a product can justify its high price tag, or better yet, whether it is a bargain). The oil is extracted from the flowers of the bitter orange tree and is excellent for mature skin due its regenerating properties. It is also extremely adept at treating stretch marks and helping to soothe skin inflammations.

Rosemary Essential Oil is often found in shampoos that help to maintain thin hair and help to prevent hair loss. Like Lavender oil, it is a scent that most of us are familiar with, but which has some perhaps unknown benefits when used in natural and organic skincare products. It is antiseptic and astringent, and therefore excellent in skincare products designed for helping to treat acne and eczema. When inhaled, the oil by itself helps to lift the mood, so all round its not a bad thing to have in a product.

The Benefits Of Lavender Aromatherapy

Lorna Findlay Said:

Lavender is considered the most useful of all essential oils. Lavender is known to help relieve headaches, insomnia, tension and stress. Its therapeutic properties have been well chronicled all over the world.

Originally an inhabitant of the Mediterranean countries, this perennial herb has long been recognized for its exotic perfume and medicinal properties. Used in past by the ancient Romans for its healing and antiseptic qualities, the name itself comes from the Latin “lavare” or “to wash”. Tibetans still make an edible lavender butter to use as part of a traditional treatment for nervous disorders. Today, the essential oil of lavender is widely used across Europe and North America for a number of illness and medical problems.

Lavender is just a beautiful herb in your garden. It has gray-green, pointing leaves that grow in a bushy, spreading manner. It is crowned with tall spikes of beautiful pale violet flowers during summer. As an ornamental flower, lavender is unique, sporting exotic fragrance, beauty and a rich harvest of sweet smelling blooms. Old English Lavender, a popular inhabitant of a cottage garden, can grow up to two to three feet high, producing fragrant grayish leaves and blue/purple flowers. The more compact variety Hidcote, has darker blue flowers, grows to around a foot high and is very pretty in any flower or herb garden. The easiest way to propagate lavender is to cut softwood cuttings in the spring. However, as lavender benefits from a light pruning in early autumn, these clippings make excellent new plants too, as long as you protect them from frosts and winter bite.

With its flowery fragrance Lavender is the most versatile and useful oil. If you are a newbie to essential oils, you may need to start here by using lavender oil. Called the “Swiss army knife of essential oils”, because of its versatility, lavender is very soothing to sun burnt skin and is used to cleanse cuts and skin irritations.

Essential oil of lavender is used in aromatherapy practices to get rid of depression, fight tiredness and get relaxation. It has strong disinfectant properties and was even used on the wars to prevent infection and relieve pain. A drop of lavender oil mixed with a teaspoon of carrier oil, such as grape seed and massaged into the temples and back of the neck will drive away headaches. Mixed with any massage oil, it also helps relieve the pain of arthritis or aching muscles. Occasionally, just a small cotton ball with droplets of lavender near your pillow can help you drift off to a deep sleep.

Lavender essential oil can help reduce anger and frustration, while improving your self esteem. Lavender is found to elicit the emotion of happiness. Lavender has a property of calming and sedating effects. You can also use lavender, by scenting a relaxing and antiseptic bath by slowly adding lavender droplets and letting the bath water run over it as it fills the bath. Fresh lavender flowers are excellent for bath too.

Dried lavender is a tool to experience the sheer aromatic properties in a relaxed ambience. To dry your lavender, strip the leaves or the just opening flowers from the stalk and spread out in a warm place, before using in pot pourris to fragrance your rooms. Around your home, dried lavender stalks can be burned like incense sticks or burned on the fire for their wonderful fragrance.

Why an Aromatherapy Home Study Course is Right for you

Jordan Matthews Said:

As our lives become more hectic, it is important that we try to use natural remedies to try and create some balance and harmony. If aromatherapy is an avenue that interests you, consider taking an aromatherapy home study course. There is a variety of distance and online learning options available, and all can be taken from the comfort of your home.

Aromatherapy home study courses do not mean that you are going to get inferior, or less information than in a traditional classroom setting. In fact, you’re likely to get more from the course, as you can do it in your own time, and not have to worry about rushing off to class at certain times.

Any good aromatherapy home study course will cover the history of aromatherapy, the principles of aromatherapy, how oils are extracted, the best ways to use essential oils, and the sorts of conditions that can be treated using essential oils. The difference between synthetic oils, and pure essential oils will also usually be covered.

There are many different types of aromatherapy home study courses. Some simply provide you with some basic knowledge so that you can begin using aromatherapy yourself. Others will provide you with a certificate or diploma at the end of the course if they are more in depth. The variety of aromatherapy home study courses available mean that you can choose the option which is best suited to your needs.

An aromatherapy home study course will be provided in two main ways. The course details will be posted to you once you enrol, with all the required materials, references and assignments needed to complete the course. The other way is that the entire course is delivered completely online. Some aromatherapy home study courses may combine the two methods, so again, you have a large array of choices when it comes to choosing an aromatherapy home study course.

Doing an aromatherapy home study course also gives you an advantage in that you can experiment with oils as you do the course. You can apply your knowledge straight away, as you are already at home, with all your supplies.

Aromatherapy home study courses continue to gain popularity as aromatherapy is used by more and more people. Even if you’re only using aromatherapy to enhance your life, an aromatherapy home study course will benefit you, as you will gain a more thorough understanding of the oils, and the uses, which will make your aromatherapy methods more effective.

How Is Aromatherapy Massage Broken Down ?

MIKE SELVON Said:

Everyone should have at least one aromatherapy massage sometime in their life. You have the wonderful feeling of tense muscles becoming relaxed, while soothing or revitalizing massage oils are spread onto the body. The incredible aroma permeates the nostrils and goes straight to the brain.

You can feel the tension, no matter what essential oil is used, flow right out of the body. It is a feeling like none other and is one that many people find addicting.

Most aromatherapy massages take place in a spa. The session begins with you undressing and being draped with towels to cover any areas not being treated by the rubdown. The masseuse will combine essential oil with base oil in order to produce aromatic oil which will be used during the session.

Different aromatherapy essential oils include: lavender, vanilla, peppermint, eucalyptus and sandalwood. The base oil may be grapeseed oil, apricot oil or almond oil. The masseuse will probably not use any body lotions, as these have a tendency to wear off quickly during a massage. Oil is the preferred medium with which to work their magic.

So why do aromatherapy essential oils work? Your brain has olfactory sensors that go off when you smell something. If you smell something displeasing to you, then your body will react to that smell by causing you to back away or become upset.

There are scents occurring in nature that cause your brain to release different chemicals in response to their aroma. Take for example peppermint. Peppermint essential oil is considered to be an energizing scent. The brain becomes more active and awake when smelling peppermint.

Aromatherapy oil is different from a perfume or fragrant oil used in your home to scent a room. You must know the differences if you are going to be the one giving out the massage or you are making your own essential oil for an aromatherapy massage.

A perfume is a chemical process that includes alcohol and other manmade chemicals. You want to use oils that are made from plants because they have been crushed and processed specifically for use on the skin.

What are you waiting for? Go find some peace and tranquility through an aromatherapy massage. Your body will delight in the sensation of basking in a particular essential oil. The deep tissue massage will feel incredible on your muscles.

You deserve this treat so pamper yourself in some aromatic luxury. When you are done, you may want to schedule future massage services before you leave the salon.
